We welcome you all to the QS in conversation ! This seminar is jointly organized by QS Asia and Effat University, Saudi Arabia. Effat University is the first private non-profit female university established in the Kingdom and one of the most forward-looking universities for women in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East!
Effat University was founded in 1999 by HRH Princess Effat Al Thunayan Al Saud, the wife of late King Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud (God rest their souls). Seen as the founding mother of female education in the Kingdom, Queen Effat (as she was affectionately known) broke new grounds by establishing the first school for girls known as Dar Al-Hanan School in 1955 and later the first private educational institution for female education in Saudi Arabia, Effat College, which became Effat University in 2009. The legacy of Queen Effat and her passion for education lives on in Effat University till today. This can be seen in Effat University’s passion to offer educational opportunities and learning experiences that are unique to empower women to become future leaders and agents of positive change in their society, and beyond. For instance, Effat University is the first educational institution in the kingdom to offer females programs in Architecture, Computer and Electrical Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Visual and Digital Production, Operations and Information Management, Product Design, Masters in Islamic Financial Management, and Masters in Energy Engineering. We are also very proud of our diverse international faculty and academic and industrial partners for each of our 13 undergraduate programs and 4 master degrees which offer our students a very rich learning experience.
The university also offers its female students opportunities to help them excel professionally in the market place through its sustained partnerships with leading academic and professional institutions nationally and internationally. Hence, the employment rates of our students around 60% and the level of satisfaction of employers of our alumnae based on regular surveys is usually around 90% and above!
Being a university mainly concerned with empowering women in higher education, the topic of the current seminar, similar to the topic covered in our joint seminar with QS in Milan in 2016, also revolves around women-centred higher education and the innovative ideas and models for improving and developing change in women higher education. This is mainly done for the sake of supporting the enhancement of the quality of women education and subsequently expanding the opportunities of employment for female graduates to ensure sustaining women in contributing to societal development and global change as well as applauding all efforts by higher education to achieve this noble goal.
At Effat University, we always think out of the box and that is why we are considered one of the leading and forward-looking educational institutions in the region. The idea of organizing QS in conversation in Geneva instead of Jeddah is a case in point. It is meant to bring Effat University closer to a diverse global audience who share with it a passion for education in general, and for women education in particular, to discuss and promote diverse ideas on women’s education and their empowerment as future leaders. We also promise you that you will get a good feel of the Saudi culture during the seminar.
Your participation and contribution at this seminar is highly appreciated and I very much look forward to meeting you all in QS in conversation.
